OpenOne to six months, or longer on the Destination Thailand Visa. Remote work, a Thai stretch, and the paperwork that sits behind it.
You work remotely, freelance, or you are here for Thai soft power (Muay Thai, cooking, medical). You need more than a 30-day stamp. You still travel light: a laptop, insurance that lasts, and a plan for money without a Thai bank account.
The DTV is a 5-year multiple-entry visa. You may stay up to 180 days per entry, then extend once by 180 days at immigration. After that you leave and re-enter.
Purposes listed by Thai e-Visa: workcation (remote workers and freelancers), Thai soft power (Muay Thai, cooking, medical), and spouse or children of holders.
Rules vary by embassy. Check your embassy before you book a flight to apply. Start at thaievisa.go.th DTV page.
Thai banks generally don't open accounts on a DTV. Kasikorn says so explicitly, Bangkok Bank reportedly too, and Krungsri, SCB and ttb ask for a Non-Immigrant visa or work permit. See the bank comparison.
Plan on Wise, cash, and cards. A non-Thai Wise account only pays Thai QR codes with the Alipay+ mark (Wise help). For PromptPay QR, TAGTHAi Easy Pay is the official visitor e-wallet (details).
A nomad subscription (for example billed every 28 days) fits a 180-day stay better than a two-week travel policy. Insurance is not on the official DTV checklist, but your embassy may ask for extra documents.
SafetyWing sells two nomad plans (SafetyWing plans):
How it works for a Thailand stay (Essential):
Visa insurance: SafetyWing's pages we checked do not say the plan meets any Thai visa requirement. Insurance is not on the official DTV checklist, and other visas (e.g. retirement O-A) have their own rules. See Visas and check with your embassy.
Prices depend on age and plan; see the current price on SafetyWing.
